Robert Burge/ 20th Century Photographs Ltd. was incorporated in 1986 as a gallery devoted to the medium of fine art photography, both contemporary and historical. The gallery is a long standing member of the Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD) and has exhibited at the prestigious 'Photography Show' in New York. Located at 315 East 62nd Street, Robert Burge/20th Century Photographs, Ltd. shares space with Yale Burge Antiques - one the city's most well known sources for English and Continental antiques and accessories.

Mr. Burge's background is well suited for this business. An Art History graduate of Williams College, Mr. Burge first worked as an assistant to John Szarkowski, the legendary Director of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art. In 1984, Mr. Burge helped to open (and later became a Director of) Pace/MacGill Gallery. In 1986, he launched Robert Burge/20th Century Photographs, Ltd. and has worked with prominent museum, corporate and private collectors ever since.

The gallery maintains an extensive inventory of work by the following photographers: O. WINSTON LINK, D W MELLOR, GAYLORD HERRON, REENIE BARROW, JOHN WOOLF, JIM GOLDSMITH, ELAINE MAYES and others. Mr. Burge also serves clients as an 'art advisor', assisting with the acquisition of high end vintage photographs as well as cutting edge contemporary work.

The elegant setting of Robert Burge/20th Century Photographs, Ltd. is more like a residential library than a commercial gallery space. "The experience", comments Burge, "is more akin to visiting a regular gallery's private 'back room'. Custom designed presentations are our specialty". Mr. Burge goes on to note that gallery's mission is also educational: "While we are happy to assist knowledgeable collectors, we are also dedicated to spending considerable time educating the design community (familiar with Yale Burge Antiques) to the possibilities that photography offers. We want to continue to try to broaden the base of the photography consuming public."
